THE PROJECT CONTEXT
The project explored a spatial and exhibition intervention for the Central Library of Architecture at Sapienza University in Rome.
Following an on-site analysis of the existing interior and exterior spaces, I developed a design system addressing display, circulation, furniture and the relationship between the library and its surrounding outdoor areas. The proposal combined spatial planning with exhibition elements, material selection and physical model development.

DESIGN CONCEPT
For the interior intervention, I abstracted spatial elements from Antonello da Messina’s Saint Jerome in His Study, focusing on the raised platform, the study enclosure and the relationship between furniture and display.
These references were translated into a central spatial structure with display lecterns positioned around it, creating a defined exhibition area and encouraging circular movement through the space.

SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT
The interior proposal was organized around a central raised structure that defined a focused exhibition and study zone within the existing library. Display elements were positioned to support circulation around the installation while maintaining visual openness to the surrounding room.
For the exterior areas, I developed a modular family of seating and spatial elements based on simplified geometric relationships. The intervention was conceived to support informal use, social interaction and continuity between the building and the surrounding garden.

MATERIAL & DETAIL DEVELOPMENT
Material choices were developed in relation to the functional and visual requirements of the different project components, including flooring, display elements, furniture and outdoor structures.
The material palette combined linoleum, PMMA, walnut, Effix, Kerto and laminated glass, while commercially available connection systems were considered for component assembly and detailing.

FINAL DESIGN
The final proposal brought together the interior exhibition structure, the outdoor modular system and a graphic surface treatment derived from the project’s geometric language.
The project was developed from site analysis and conceptual references through spatial organization, material selection, detailing and physical model construction.

GRAPHIC SURFACE DEVELOPMENT
A secondary graphic system was developed by abstracting and repeating the profile of the exhibition lectern, creating patterns intended for selected interior surfaces.
