24TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TRANSPORT THEORY’S POSTER
As the designer of the poster for the 2015 International Conference on Transport Theory in Taormina, I aimed to craft a visually striking and thought-provoking piece that would seamlessly blend the rich cultural heritage of Sicily with the sophisticated scientific concepts central to the event. The conference, which gathered global experts in fields such as neutron transport, reactor physics, quantum transport, and kinetic models in bio and social sciences, demanded a design that could encapsulate the complexity and interdisciplinary nature of these topics, while also celebrating the unique location.

Drawing inspiration from the distinctive shape of Sicily itself, I sought to evoke the deep connection between the conference and the land that hosted this prestigious international gathering. The use of vibrant green and red hues in the design, symbolizing the island’s lush landscape and the majestic Mount Etna volcano, anchored the visual in the local culture. These colors also served as a subtle nod to the advanced scientific research discussed during the conference, particularly in areas like semiconductor technology, plasma physics, and the innovative transport theories that are reshaping modern science.

At the heart of the design lies the hexagonal shape, an homage to the molecular structure of graphene, which I chose to represent the scientific core of the conference. The precise, geometric lines of this shape not only reflect the intricate and structured nature of the topics at hand—ranging from the transport of charged particles to radiative transfer and continuum-derived models—but also symbolize the cutting-edge advancements in research and technological innovation. The hexagonal pattern became a powerful metaphor for the intersection of theory, experimentation, and discovery that defines the field of transport theory.

The overall layout of the poster was carefully crafted to evoke a sense of dynamism, forward-thinking progress, and intellectual energy, aligning perfectly with the central themes discussed during the conference, such as quantum transport, the kinetic theory of classical particles, and the multi-disciplinary approaches to complex scientific problems. I wanted the poster to transcend its role as a mere advertisement for the event and become a visual tribute to the harmonious fusion of beauty, science, and intellectual exploration.

In this design, I endeavored to create a balance between tradition and innovation, highlighting not only the cutting-edge research taking place in the fields of physics and engineering but also the cultural richness of the Sicilian backdrop. Ultimately, the poster became more than just a call to attend—it became a powerful visual representation of an international event that unites the past, present, and future of scientific inquiry.
